As I share my maiden Christmas message, I feel humbled and honoured to be your Presiding Bishop, I am filled with joy, gratitude, and a deep sense of responsibility. It is a moment of great celebration, a moment of new beginnings, and a moment of hope. Whilst we approach the sacred season of Christmas, we are reminded of the timeless message of love, hope, and redemption that Jesus Christ brought to our world. In a world that is often marred by darkness, pain, and uncertainty, we are called to be the light of Christ, shining brightly in the midst of it all.
My dear brothers and sisters, I want you to know that I am committed to leading our church with integrity, compassion, and courage. I pledge to walk with you, to pray with you, and to work alongside you as we strive to build a church that is truly inclusive, welcoming, and transformative. Seeing that we gather around the manger, let us remember the poor, the marginalized, the oppressed, and the vulnerable. Let us reach out to those who are lost, those who are hurting, and those who are searching for hope. Let us be the Good News that they so desperately need. To our children, our young people, and our families, I want to say that you are precious, you are valued, and you are the future of our church. I encourage you to stay close to God, to seek wisdom, and to be agents of change in your communities.
To our communities, our nation, and the world, I want to say that we stand with you, we pray for you, and we are committed to serving you. We are called to be peacemakers, to be advocates for justice, and to be a voice for the voiceless. As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, let us do so with joy, with gratitude, and with a deep sense of purpose. Let us remember the words of Isaiah, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the authority shall be upon his shoulder.” May this Christmas season be a time of renewal, of refreshment, and of recommitment to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May we be filled with the joy of the Lord, and may we be the light of Christ to a world that so desperately needs us.
Merry Christmas, to you all the Methodist Community! And may the peace of Christ be with you all.
Your brother in Christ,
Presiding Bishop
