James 1
17 Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father who created all the lights in the heavens. He is always the same and never makes dark shadows by changing. 18 He wanted us to be his own special people, and so he sent the true message to give us new birth.
19 My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. 20 If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things that God wants done. 21 You must stop doing anything immoral or evil. Instead be humble and accept the message that is planted in you to save you.
22 Obey God’s message! Don’t fool yourselves by just listening to it. 23 If you hear the message and don’t obey it, you are like people who stare at themselves in a mirror 24 and forget what they look like as soon as they leave. 25 But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don’t just hear and forget.
26 If you think you are being religious, but can’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and everything you do is useless. 27 Religion that pleases God the Father must be pure and spotless. You must help needy orphans and widows and not let this world make you evil.
Mark 7
1 Some Pharisees and several teachers of the Law of Moses from Jerusalem came and gathered around Jesus. 2 They noticed that some of his disciples ate without first washing their hands.
3 The Pharisees and many others obey the teachings of their ancestors. They always wash their hands in the proper way before eating. 4 None of them will eat anything they buy in the market until it is washed. They also follow a lot of other teachings, such as washing cups, pitchers, and bowls.
5 The Pharisees and teachers asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples obey what our ancestors taught us to do? Why do they eat without washing their hands?”
6 Jesus replied:
You are nothing but show-offs! The prophet Isaiah was right when he wrote that God had said,
“All of you praise me with your words,
but you never really think about me.
7 It is useless for you to worship me,
when you teach rules made up by humans.”
8 You disobey God’s commands in order to obey what humans have taught.
Text version of Children’s Address for Hillside Circuit on August 29th 2021, with Mrs Angela Penduka:
Good morning parents and guardians kindly give the children access to your phones and laptops for the next few minutes .We can also read to them especially the little ones. It’s best if you sit with them and help them through the lesson as we try to give our children and grandchildren a strong Christian foundation.
Good morning children I am Gogo Pee. Today we are going to talk about loving and worshiping God. We know that our parents and brothers and sisters love us. They also expect us to love them back. How do we know that they love us? Tell your parents how you know that someone loves you.
You are correct if you said among other things they buy you clothes sweets, birthday cakes. Send you to school. My question, do we also love them back. How do you show those you love that you also love them? You can show them by doing some house chores make nice birthday cards and Christmas Cards play some games with them or just keep them company.
How would you feel if someone would just tell you that they love you and they buy themselves ice-cream or a nice dresses and they never do anything for you other than telling you that they love you even sing nice songs about you but you don’t see or get anything good from them .I would be very sad and wonder if they truly love me
Do you know that Jesus loves you so much? He even told people to let us children go to him because the kingdom of God belongs to us .He hears and answers our prayers. At times he answers in ways we do not expect at times he delays to answer us .But he is always listening to us .Isn’t that lovely to know that Jesus is our great friend every time .Listen carefully children Jesus also expects us to love him back. It is good to sit and listen to what we are told about Jesus, It is good to sing Sunday school songs like Jesus loves me yes I know for the Bible tells me so. But we also need to do some good things for Jesus .How can we do good things for Jesus and show him and other people that we love him so so so much?
There are some animals and plants which cannot take care of themselves. There are some gogos like Gogo Pee who cannot always stand up to get their tablets or get some water to drink. We can help them. We can feed some pets water plants share our toys and other things with others who do not have. (We have to ask our parents first if we can give away some things to those in need.) Jesus is very pleased when we can be kind to animals and other people. We should not say bad things to other people or laugh at others .Always think how the other person feels about what you say or do to them. There are so many things we can do for those who are not as strong as us or do not have the good things we have. Ask your parents and your brothers and sisters the other things we can do.
So girls and Boys we should show that we love Jesus by loving his people and his animals, being kind and polite .We should not lie or bad mouth others. Remember Jesus loves us let us pass this love to others and to animals and plants. Very soon schools will be opening we should start getting ready I hope we have been revising and learning at home
Let us pray
Loving God we thank you for all the children, bless them especially now as they get ready to go back to school after such a long break. We pray Lord that they grow up to be good children who know you and love you. We pray for their parents and guardians most of us are finding it difficult to raise fees but we trust in you Lord you will give a way through the different challenges we face. Forgive us Lord when we live a life that is not pleasing to you AMEN
