Bible readings:

Psalm 98

1 Sing a new song to the LORD! He has worked miracles,
and with his own powerful arm,
he has won the victory.
2 The LORD has shown the nations
that he has the power to save and to bring justice.
3 God has been faithful in his love for Israel,
and his saving power is seen everywhere on earth.

4 Tell everyone on this earth
to sing happy songs in praise of the LORD.
5 Make music for him on harps. Play beautiful melodies!
6 Sound the trumpets and horns
and celebrate with joyful songs
for our LORD and King!

7 Command the ocean to roar with all of its creatures,
and the earth to shout with all of its people.
8 Order the rivers to clap their hands,
and all of the hills to sing together.
9 Let them worship the LORD!
He is coming to judge everyone on the earth,
and he will be honest and fair.

Acts 10

44 While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit took control of everyone who was listening. 45 Some Jewish followers of the Lord had come with Peter, and they were surprised that the Holy Spirit had been given to Gentiles. 46 Now they were hearing Gentiles speaking unknown languages and praising God.
Peter said, 47 “These Gentiles have been given the Holy Spirit, just as we have! I am certain that no one would dare stop us from baptizing them.” 48 Peter ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and they asked him to stay on for a few days.

1 John 5

1 If we believe that Jesus is truly Christ, we are God’s children. Everyone who loves the Father will also love his children. 2 If we love and obey God, we know that we will love his children. 3 We show our love for God by obeying his commandments, and they are not hard to follow.
4 Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory. 5 No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God.

6 Water and blood came out from the side of Jesus Christ. It wasn’t just water, but water and blood. The Spirit tells about this, because the Spirit is truthful.

John 15

9 I have loved you, just as my Father has loved me. So remain faithful to my love for you. 10 If you obey me, I will keep loving you, just as my Father keeps loving me, because I have obeyed him.
11 I have told you this to make you as completely happy as I am. 12 Now I tell you to love each other, as I have loved you. 13 The greatest way to show love for friends is to die for them. 14 And you are my friends, if you obey me. 15 Servants don’t know what their master is doing, and so I don’t speak to you as my servants. I speak to you as my friends, and I have told you everything that my Father has told me.
16 You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last. Then my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. 17 So I command you to love each other.

Text version of the Children’s Address for Hillside Circuit on May 9th 2021, with Mrs Chipo Marara:

I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Amen
Mrs Marara

Good morning boys and girls. Our theme today is RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. Boys and girls let’s sing a joyful song to the Lord for He has done a marvellous thing to us. He has given us the Holy Spirit to protect and guide us in our daily lives. Acts 10 verses 44 – 48 God gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit and commanded us to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, His only Son whom He gave to us through His love. Children of God, our God is commanding us to love Him as He loved us, to love our friends, and to obey and love our parents.

John 15 is talking of a true vine and the vinedresser that every branch that does not bear any fruit is taken away so as children of God we should bear fruits of love , keeping God’s commandments and abide in Him and He in us as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can we unless we abide in the Lord.

He who has the Son has life. This is He who came by water and blood Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and blood. Anything we ask in His name will be given unto us.

Let’s pray
We thank you Lord for giving us the Holy Spirit to guide and protect us as your children. You are wonderful God, we glorify your name Amen.
