Sermon:

Audio message for Hillside Circuit on September 11th 2022, with Rev Nobuhle Sibanda.

Bible readings:

Psalm 14

1 Only a fool would say, “There is no God!”
People like that are worthless;
they are heartless and cruel and never do right.

2 From heaven the LORD looks down to see
if anyone is wise enough to search for him.
3 But all of them are corrupt; no one does right.

4 Won’t you evil people learn? You refuse to pray,
and you gobble down the LORD’S people.
5 But you will be frightened,
because God is on the side of every good person.
6 You may spoil the plans of the poor,
but the LORD protects them.

7 I long for someone from Zion to come and save Israel!
Our LORD, when you bless your people again,
Jacob’s family will be glad, and Israel will celebrate.

Jeremiah 4

11-12 When disaster comes, the LORD will tell you people of Jerusalem,
“I am sending a windstorm from the desert
not a welcome breeze.
And it will sweep you away
as punishment for your sins.

22 I heard the LORD say, “My people ignore me.
They are foolish children who do not understand
that they will be punished.
All they know is how to sin.”

1 Timothy 1

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord. He has given me the strength for my work because he knew that he could trust me. 13 I used to say terrible and insulting things about him, and I was cruel. But he had mercy on me because I didn’t know what I was doing, and I had not yet put my faith in him. 14 Christ Jesus our Lord was very kind to me. He has greatly blessed my life with faith and love just like his own.
15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This saying is true, and it can be trusted. I was the worst sinner of all! 16 But since I was worse than anyone else, God had mercy on me and let me be an example of the endless patience of Christ Jesus. He did this so that others would put their faith in Christ and have eternal life. 17 I pray that honour and glory will always be given to the only God, who lives forever and is the invisible and eternal King! Amen.

Luke 15

1 Tax collectors and sinners were all crowding around to listen to Jesus. 2 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses started grumbling, “This man is friendly with sinners. He even eats with them.”
3 Then Jesus told them this story:
4 If any of you has a hundred sheep, and one of them gets lost, what will you do? Won’t you leave the ninety-nine in the field and go look for the lost sheep until you find it? 5 And when you find it, you will be so glad that you will put it on your shoulder 6 and carry it home. Then you will call in your friends and neighbours and say, “Let’s celebrate! I’ve found my lost sheep.”
7 Jesus said, “In the same way there is more happiness in heaven because of one sinner who turns to God than over ninety-nine good people who don’t need to.”

8 Jesus told the people another story:
What will a woman do if she has ten silver coins and loses one of them? Won’t she light a lamp, sweep the floor, and look carefully until she finds it? 9 Then she will call in her friends and neighbours and say, “Let’s celebrate! I’ve found the coin I lost.”
10 Jesus said, “In the same way God’s angels are happy when even one person turns to him.”

Text version of the Children’s Address for Hillside Circuit on September 11th 2022, with Mrs Angela Penduka:

Unconditional Love of the Father
Luke 15 vs. 1-10

Good morning Girls and boys. I pray you had a pleasant start of the third final term of 2022.
My favourite chorus when I was a Sunday Scholar and I still love it today is Jesus loves me Yes I know. Lets sing along. Today we are going to talk about this love of our Father. Do we all know that God is our Father? I am sure we know as we always pray to Him as we say the Lord’s Prayer “Our Father who art in heaven”. God loves us so so so much .It doesn’t matter whether you are a boy or a girl (brown, chocolate or pink) .My granddaughter told me that there is no child who is black or white so we are brown chocolate or pink.
At times parents have favourite children but we are all our heavenly Father’s favourites .Isn’t that lovely .You know what, there is the devil who is jealous that God loves us so he wants to lead us astray he wants us to do bad things which our heavenly father doesn’t like. So boys and girls we must always be careful, be on our guard that we are not tempted to do bad things.
Tell your brother sister or your parents some of the bad things one can be tempted to do. Very good if you said among other things steal, lie, beat others, to be rude proud & many other bad things. The devil wants to take us away from the Father’s love so he tempts us to do all the bad things.

Our Bible reading today is Luke 15 vs.1 to 10 It is about a story that Jesus told some people who were wondering why Jesus liked being with bad people ,the people they considered to be sinners the bad guys. Jesus told the story of a shepherd (a person who looks after sheep). This man had 100 sheep and one was lost. This sheep must have wondered away or got carried away and was left behind.
The shepherd left the ninety nine sheep and went to look for the lost sheep. Jesus also asked these people that if one has ten pieces of coins and one is lost don’t they get light to look for the coin until they find it.

The shepherd did not say “Ah let the silly sheep stray away after all I still have ninety nine neither did the gogo who lost one piece of silver say I still have nine. They looked for the one lost sheep and the one lost coin. If we stray away and do bad things God will also look for us love us likewise because we all precious as individuals. God wants us to say sorry and go back to our good ways. That is why we always go to Sunday school, we listen to the lessons we get like this one. We have the chance to say thank you God, also say we are sorry for the wrong things we would have done and pray for others and ourselves.
Boys and girls always remember that God loves you all. He doesn’t want us to be bad boys and girls He wants us to be His good obedient children who seek forgiveness when we do wrong things. He doesn’t want to lose anyone of us because He loves us.

Let us pray
Heavenly father we come before you this morning we glorify your Holy name .You are a loving caring Father .We are sorry that at times we get carried away and do bad things for that we are truly sorry. We pray for some of our friends who have no chance to hear your word. We pray that parents and guardians can help them to attend Sunday school and also help them listen to online services. We pray Lord that you help us through this final school term. Thank you for loving us unconditionally. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
