Psalm 1
1 God blesses those people who refuse evil advice
and won’t follow sinners
or join in sneering at God.
2 Instead, the Law of the LORD makes them happy,
and they think about it day and night.
3 They are like trees growing beside a stream,
trees that produce fruit in season
and always have leaves.
Those people succeed in everything they do.
4 That isn’t true of those who are evil,
because they are like straw blown by the wind.
5 Sinners won’t have an excuse on the day of judgment,
and they won’t have a place with the people of God.
6 The LORD protects everyone who follows him,
but the wicked follow a road that leads to ruin.

Proverbs 31
10 A truly good wife is the most precious treasure
a man can find!
11 Her husband depends on her,
and she never lets him down.
12 She is good to him every day of her life,
13 and with her own hands she gladly makes clothes.
14 She is like a sailing ship
that brings food from across the sea.
15 She gets up before daylight to prepare food
for her family and for her servants.
16 She knows how to buy land
and how to plant a vineyard,
17 and she always works hard.
18 She knows when to buy or sell,
and she stays busy until late at night.
19 She spins her own cloth,
20 and she helps the poor and the needy.
21 Her family has warm clothing,
and so she doesn’t worry when it snows.
22 She does her own sewing,
and everything she wears is beautiful.
23 Her husband is a well-known and respected leader
in the city.
24 She makes clothes to sell to the shop owners.
25 She is strong and graceful,
as well as cheerful about the future.
26 Her words are sensible,
and her advice is thoughtful.
27 She takes good care of her family and is never lazy.
28 Her children praise her,
and with great pride her husband says,
29 “There are many good women, but you are the best!”
30 Charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away,
but a woman who honours the LORD
deserves to be praised.
31 Show her respect
praise her in public for what she has done.

James 3 & 4
3: 13 Are any of you wise or sensible? Then show it by living right and by being humble and wise in everything you do. 14 But if your heart is full of bitter jealousy and selfishness, don’t brag or lie to cover up the truth. 15 That kind of wisdom doesn’t come from above. It is earthly and selfish and comes from the devil himself. 16 Whenever people are jealous or selfish, they cause trouble and do all sorts of cruel things. 17 But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere. 18 When peacemakers plant seeds of peace, they will harvest justice.
4: 1 Why do you fight and argue with each other? Isn’t it because you are full of selfish desires that fight to control your body? 2 You want something you don’t have, and you will do anything to get it. You will even kill! But you still cannot get what you want, and you won’t get it by fighting and arguing. You should pray for it. 3 Yet even when you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.
7 Surrender to God! Resist the devil, and he will run from you. 8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you.

Mark 9
30 Jesus left with his disciples and started through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know about it, 31 because he was teaching the disciples that the Son of Man would be handed over to people who would kill him. But three days later he would rise to life. 32 The disciples did not understand what Jesus meant, and they were afraid to ask.
33 Jesus and his disciples went to his home in Capernaum. After they were inside the house, Jesus asked them, “What were you arguing about along the way?” 34 They had been arguing about which one of them was the greatest, and so they did not answer.
35 After Jesus sat down and told the twelve disciples to gather around him, he said, “If you want the place of honour, you must become a slave and serve others!”
36 Then Jesus had a child stand near him. He put his arm around the child and said, 37 “When you welcome even a child because of me, you welcome me. And when you welcome me, you welcome the one who sent me.”
