Youth Week 2026

Preamble
Warm Christian greetings to all young people throughout the MCZ Connexion!

We meet for Youth Week 2026 under the theme, “Remaining in Christ” (John 15:5). This theme emerges from Jesus’ farewell discourse in which He employs the metaphor of the vine and the branches to articulate the nature of authentic discipleship. In its original context, this teaching addressed a community of believers facing uncertainty, opposition, and the impending absence of Jesus’ physical presence. Christ wanted His disciples to know that staying connected to Him is what keeps their faith strong even in His absence.

Similarly, as young people we meet this year for Youth Week 2026 in an environment marked by, mental health challenges, drug and substance abuse, unemployment, social media and digital influence. These challenges place us as young people at risk of spiritual fragmentation, identity crisis, and weakened faith. Jesus’ declaration, on John 15:6… “Apart from Me you can do nothing,” remains a timeless theological assertion that life, purpose, and fruitfulness are sustained only through continued connection with Christ.

Youth Week 2026 therefore is a call to all young people to cultivate a lifestyle of remaining in Christ through prayer and obedience. Remaining in Christ nurtures our faith and strengthens us spiritually in a world that always challenges our faith as young people.

Youth Week 2026 is also significant in that, it marks an important milestone in the journey of the Youth Department. This year, we celebrate 35 years of existence as the Youth and Children’s Ministry in the MCZ. The journey from 1991 to 2026 reflects a story of growth, commitment, and faithful service.

May the Youth Week 2026 guide, help us to deepen our faith, strengthen our witness, and produce lasting spiritual fruit to the glory of God.

In His Service

Day 1: Launch
Scripture John 15: 1-8

We meet for 2026 Youth Week under the powerful theme “Remain in Christ,” drawn from the words of Jesus in John 15:5. Last year, in 2025, we were challenged as young people to trust God in all circumstances, even when life did not look promising (Habakkuk 3:17–18). As we meet for this year’s youth week, the circumstances that surround us as young people may not have changed. We still face pressure, uncertainty, and moments that continue to test our faith. Hence, this year’s theme is a continuation of the journey that we started in 2025. The theme calls us as young people to go deeper, to stay rooted, and to choose every day to remain connected to Christ, the true source of our strength, identity, and purpose.

Our key scripture for today comes from John 15, which forms part of Jesus’ final teachings to His disciples just before His crucifixion. Jesus uses the illustration of the vine and the branches to explain what it truly means to live as His followers. He presents Himself as the true vine and His followers as the branches, teaching us that just as branches cannot survive or bear fruit on their own, young believers also cannot thrive without staying connected to Him. Jesus was speaking to disciples who were about to face fear, confusion, pressure and persecution. Jesus knew that their faith was going to be tested therefore, His message was simple but deep: remain in me (John 15:5). He urges them to stay connected, to keep trusting, and to keep walking with Him even when life becomes difficult.

In the same way, the words of Jesus in John 15, speaks directly to today’s youth. Our theme is a reminder that our strength, growth and purpose flow from staying rooted in Christ. If we remain in Christ, He promises to remain in us, and through Him, we receive authority and strength for living. God is the source of our very being. That is why we are being called to Remain in Christ for the assurance of life, because Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.. Separating ourselves from Him means cutting off our true supply.

In an ever-changing world, this year’s call to us as young people is to Remain in Christ despite challenges such as drug and substance abuse, unemployment, broken relationships, and socio-economic and political instability. God remains our source of strength and motivation. No matter the situation, when we have a right relationship with God and remain connected to Him, fruitfulness will not fail in our lives. Remaining in Christ gives us the ability to Stay Plugged In to Christ the Power Source. A life apart from Christ is like a branch cut from the vine, it may appear alive for a while, but it is spiritually empty, fruitless, and ultimately headed for destruction.

Without the vine, the branch lacks water and nutrients necessary for growth. God’s design is that human beings depend on their Creator. We maintain this connection through prayer, reading and hearing God’s Word, and walking in obedience. As we begin Youth Week 2026, let us continue to seek to remain in Christ!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of life. Guide my steps so that I do not drift away from you. Grant me the spirit of discernment to choose what is right and to live a life that pleases you. Amen.

Day 2: APART FROM CHRIST, WE CAN DO NOTHING
Scripture: John 15: 5, Numbers 14: 39–45, Judges 16: 20

In a world, that celebrates independence, self-reliance, and personal achievement, Jesus gives a powerful and humbling truth: “Apart from me you can do nothing.”( John 15: 5).  These words remind us that no matter how gifted, educated, or talented we may be, true life, growth, and lasting success only come from remaining connected to Christ. Jesus uses the image of a vine and its branches to explain our relationship with Him. Just as a branch cannot survive or produce fruit when it is cut off from the vine, we cannot live meaningful and fruitful lives when we disconnect ourselves from Christ.

Judges 16: 20 tells us of how Samson was defeated…“But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him. Samson tried to fight the Philistines using the same strength he always had, but this time he attempted to act without God’s presence. Because the Spirit of the Lord had left him, he was powerless and defeated. His story clearly shows that when we move without God, our strength, success, and protection fail. Remaining in Christ means staying connected through prayer, obedience, worship, and living according to His Word. Samson story teaches us that CONFIDENCE WITHOUT CONNECTION LEADS TO COLLAPSE.

In the book of Numbers 14: 39–45, that we read today, we here of Israel’s Defeat. They tried to go to battle after disobeying God, and they were defeated. Moses warned them, he told them that the Lord will not go with them into the battle with the Amalekites and the Canaanites (Numbers 15: 42). In their stubbornness they went into war, though Moses nor the ark of the Covenant moved not from the camp (Numbers 14:44). As young people we often fall into temptation of trusting our confidence and energy and this leads us to failure.

Remaining in Christ assures us that our lives have purpose and direction. It teaches us that dependence on Christ is not weakness but strength. When we stay connected to Him, our lives become living testimonies of His love, power, and faithfulness.

Reflection

In which areas of your life do you sometimes rely more on yourself than on Christ?

What practical steps can help you stay spiritually connected to Christ every day?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me to remain connected to you as my true source. Teach me to depend on you in every area of my life. Strengthen my faith so that my life may continue to bear fruit for your glory. Amen.

Day 3: REMAINING IN CHRIST THROUGH EVERY SEASON:  UNSHAKEN IN HOPE
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4: 8-9, Isaiah 43:2, John 17:15

Many of us believe that once we become Christians, life will be free from challenges. However, God does not promise a problem-free life; He promises His presence in every season. Remaining in Christ does not remove us from trouble, but it keeps us secure within God’s care.

Job is a clear example. The Bible describes him as blameless, upright, God-fearing, and one who avoided evil (Job 1:1). Yet, he faced severe trials. This shows that remaining in Christ does not mean we will never have challenges. As Christian youths, we also face academic failure, loss of loved ones, unemployment, broken relationships, and unfulfilled plans. These challenges do not reveal God’s weakness. Instead, God uses them to show His power, faithfulness, and presence in our lives.

Jesus Himself prayed in John 17:15 that, His disciples may not be taken out of the world but rather be protected while living in it. Therefore, we must not allow difficult situations to separate us from Christ. Rather, we should allow God to be glorified through our struggles. Even in deep waters and fiery trials, God remains powerful enough to protect and preserve us (Isaiah 43:2)

Paul further reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4 that although we may be pressed, perplexed, and struck down, we are not destroyed. Remaining in Christ keeps us standing even when life tries to break us. Remaining in Christ means trusting God even when our situation looks hopeless.

John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, captured this truth in his final words: “The best of all is, God is with us.” This declaration reflects the heart of our faith that, God remains with His people in every season. Like Wesley, we are reminded that Christians are not exempt from challenges, but we are never alone. What matters most is that Christ remains in us, giving us strength to face every situation. Remaining in Christ assures us that even in adversity, God is present, faithful, and victorious.

Reflection

How can we remain rooted in Christ during difficult times?

Why does God allow challenges even though He has the power to prevent them?

Prayer

Almighty God, give us strength and resilience as we face life’s challenges. Help us to fear you and turn away from sin so that we may remain pure and faithful. Grant us your protection, guidance, and power as we continue to remain in Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 4: The Reward of Remaining in Christ
Scripture: John 15:16; Revelation 2:10

Yesterday we reflected on the importance of remaining in Christ even in challenging seasons, today as we enter Day 4 of our Youth Week 2026, we focus on “The Reward of Remaining in Christ.” Today’s reflections reminds us of the blessings reserved for those who remain committed to Christ until the end.

In John 15:16, Christ assures us that He has chosen us “to bear fruit” and that what we ask in His name will be granted. This passage affirms that abiding in God’s love empowers us to live fruitful lives, manifesting His grace and purpose in all seasons.

The main rewards for remaining in God, as described in John 15:16 are, being chosen and appointed by Christ to bear lasting fruit, having your prayers answered, and experiencing the fullness of God’s joy. The fruit being referred to is the spiritual growth within oneself (like love, joy, and peace) and the winning of souls for Christ. John 15:3 teaches us that every branch that remains in Him becomes fruitful and the vinedresser will make sure that, it is pruned timeously for more fruits.

Revelation 2:10 teaches us that if we remain faithful even in the face of persecution or trials, God will reward us. God promises the “crown of life” to those who remain steadfast unto death, emphasizing eternal rewards for endurance and loyalty to Christ.

The reward is not only spiritual fruitfulness in this life but also the glorious crown of life promised in eternity. A crown is given to those who endure the challenges and remain steadfast until the end of the race. Today we are being encouraged to focus on the finishing line because rewards are given to those who hit the rope. Jesus in John 15:1-17, mentions several rewards that comes from remaining in Him. Similarly as young people today, we receive the same promises. The greatest promise being, that God will give us whatever we ask for in His name (John 15:16)

Discussion.

How does remaining in God enable believers to bear fruit in their daily lives?

What challenges might the youth face in staying faithful, and how can they overcome these?

What does the “crown of life” signify for us as young Christians today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, grant us the strength to remain faithful and fruit bearing. Help us to endure trials with the hope of your eternal reward. May our lives glorify your name, and may we inspire others by our steadfastness in Christ. Amen.

Day 5: THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD IN US
Scripture: John 15:7, Psalm 119:11

We begin day 5 with a reflection

What specific verse/s have influenced your life and faith, and how can you share that power with others? ( the facilitator should allow the young people to share the scriptures that have influenced their faith)

In a world filled with distractions and conflicting messages, the power of God’s Word often goes unnoticed, especially among young Christians. With so many voices competing for our attention, it is easy to underestimate the power that Scripture can have in our lives. God’s Word is not merely ancient text; it is alive and has the ability to change us from within.

Christ says to His disciples, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”(John 15:7). This scripture emphasizes the importance of remaining in Christ and allowing His words to dwell in us. This connection empowers our prayers and aligns our desires with His will.

The Psalmist writes, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”(Psalm 119:11), these words highlights the importance of internalizing God’s Word, which serves as a shield against sin and guides our decisions. In our fast-paced lives, we may seek guidance from various sources; we are growing up at a time when AI seems to have all the answers to our problems. The word of God today teaches us that, nothing compares to the clarity and strength found in Scripture. In moments of doubt or fear, turning to God’s promises can provide comfort and direction.

Engaging with His Word helps us as youth to face challenges with confidence, affirming our identity in Christ and the hope we have through Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me to remain in you and to hide Your Word in my heart. May your truth guide my actions and decisions, and may I share its power with those around me. Amen.

Day 6: Remaining Fruitful Until the End
Scripture: Galatians 5:22–23; Matthew 24:13

In a world that often celebrates quick wins and instant success, the call to remain fruitful until the very end can seem challenging, especially for young believers. Our walk of faith is not a short race but a long journey that requires patience, commitment, and consistency to keep producing the fruits of the Spirit in every season of life.

Galatians 5:22–23 describes the qualities of a life guided by the Holy Spirit. These fruits are love; joy, peace, and these are not merely goals we aim for, but clear signs of an active and growing relationship with Christ. When these qualities are evident in our lives, we reveal God’s nature to the world around us.

Matthew 24:13 reminds us, “The one who endures to the end will be saved.” This emphasizes the importance of perseverance in our faith journey. As we encounter difficulties, remaining in Christ and continuing to bear spiritual fruit is vital. This endurance strengthens our faith and becomes a powerful testimony, showing others the hope we have in Christ.

In everyday life, we may feel pressured to compromise our values or to give up when times are hard. However, by keeping our focus on the fruits of the Spirit and remaining firm in Christ, we can face life’s challenges with grace and grow into a life that is truly fruitful and fulfilling in Him.

Discussion

Which fruit of the Spirit do you struggle most to develop?

What steps can you take to remain firm in your faith during difficult seasons?

Prayer

Lord, help me to stay fruitful in my walk with you. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may show love, joy, and peace in everything I do. Give me the strength to stand firm in my faith until the end. Amen.

Day 7: Deeds, Not Words (Facta non Verba)
Mark 11:12–14 James 1:22–25; 2:24–26

Facta non verba is a Latin expression meaning “deeds, not words” or “actions, not speeches.” It teaches that a person’s life should be measured more by what they do than by what they say, reminding us that true character is revealed through actions rather than promises. In today’s religious environment, faith has become more of a talk show than a lifestyle. Most Christians speak about faith, yet their daily lives do not reflect what they profess. While faith is present, it frequently lacks action.

Jesus cursed the barren fig tree, teaching us that fruitlessness leads to rejection rather than preservation. The unproductive fig tree represents people who display religious appearance but lack spiritual substance. It looked promising, yet it had no fruit to offer — and because of that, it attracted a curse.

We are expected to bear fruit and to be a solution to the hungry communities around us. James therefore encourages us by saying, “Faith without works is dead.” This teaches us that we are responsible youth, guided and governed by Christ who remains in us at all times. Our faith must move beyond words into action.

Today’s lesson challenges the MCZ youth to recognize that they are agents of transformation. Youth who carry Christ are transformed, and they are called to transform others. Everywhere we are, we must demonstrate Christlike living, unlike the fig tree that promised much but produced nothing. The Youth Department cannot grow if its members only speak about God’s blessings without using those blessings to strengthen the ministry. Before we seek donors, we must first become donors ourselves.

Activity

Today is our Community Service Day. Let us go out and demonstrate what we preach by serving in our communities: hospitals, orphanages, old people’s homes, church premises, and any place where help is needed.

The Youth and Children’s Ministry guided by Strategic Pillar 2, resolved that, each District adopts a home at Mathew Rusike Children’s Home. We want to thank the entire MCZ community for embracing this vision and running with it. Today we are also reminded to take action towards this worthy social responsibility. Find out from

Day 8: Sunday Service: THEME: REMAIN IN CHRIST.
Text : Isaiah 43:1-2, John 15:1-17, 2 Corinthians 4: 8-9

Today, as we conclude Youth Week, we take charge by leading the worship service throughout the entire MCZ Connexion.  We do stand not just as participants, but as young people called to remain in Christ in every season of life. The world is full of pressure, temptations, disappointments, and uncertainties. Yet God’s Word reminds us that our strength, identity, and victory is found in staying connected to Christ.

God is calling us to be branches that stay connected, believers who are unshaken by storms, and young people who walk with Christ in all seasons. Life does not spare us from challenges because we are believers. Isaiah 43 assures us that even when we pass through waters and fires, God is with us. His presence does not remove the storm, but it guarantees our protection and purpose through it.

ACTIVITY

Youth Week is also a period set aside for raising funds for the Youth and Children’s Ministry. Today we are therefore encouraged to come up with fundraising initiatives in order to meet our Youth Week target. The Sunday Schoolers should also be part of today’s service.
